BEGINNER'S GUIDE

A First-Timer's Guide to Osaka & Kansai

Osaka & Kansai is about 2.5 hours by Shinkansen or 1h10m by plane from Tokyo. It's Japan's second-largest economic region and a cultural heartland, home to ancient capitals like Kyoto and Nara with over a thousand years of history. Food culture (takoyaki, okonomiyaki), traditional culture (tea ceremony, kimono, samurai and ninja), night cruises and more — a huge variety of authentic experiences awaits.

Food Experience Basics

Kansai is a "kuidaore" (eat-till-you-drop) city. Takoyaki and okonomiyaki classes are taught directly by instructors from famous local shops. Plus wagashi and matcha experiences at long-established Kyoto shops, sushi-making and more — see, make and taste, a five-sense experience. Easy and enjoyable for families, couples and friends alike.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from first-time users

How far in advance can I book?
Many plans accept same-day bookings. Some can be booked as little as 2 hours before the start, subject to availability. That said, popular plans and peak seasons (cherry blossom, autumn leaves, New Year holidays, Golden Week) fill up fast — book early. Kyoto tea ceremony and samurai/ninja experiences in particular can sell out 1-2 weeks in advance.
Can I cancel?
Policies vary by plan. Typically: free up to 7 days before, 50% from 3 days before, 100% from the day before. Full details are on each plan's page — always check before booking. If the experience is cancelled due to typhoons or natural disasters, we'll fully refund you.
From what age can children join?
It varies by plan. Many accept children from age 6, while takoyaki making and wagashi experiences can welcome children from age 3. Night cruises and some guided temple and shrine tours accept children from age 0. Check each plan's "Participation" section for details. Use the "Kids OK" filter to narrow results for family-friendly plans.
Do I need to speak Japanese?
No, you don't! Many plans have English-speaking guides and instructors. Providers prepare translated materials and often use gestures and clear demonstrations. Use the "English Support" filter to narrow down to plans that international guests can enjoy with peace of mind.
What happens on rainy days?
Most Kansai authentic experiences are indoor (food experiences, tea ceremony, ninja, crafts, etc.) and run regardless of the weather. Outdoor tours run as usual in light rain. In the event of cancellation due to typhoons or severe weather, we'll fully refund you. We can also propose alternatives. Decisions are shared by email or phone on the morning of the experience.
Is pickup included?
Some plans offer free hotel pickup in central Osaka and Kyoto. Enter your hotel name at booking and we'll meet you in the lobby. Most authentic experiences are within walking distance of a major station, and on-site meeting is standard. Check each plan's "Meeting Point" section for details.
Payment methods?
Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express), PayPay and pay-on-site (cash on the day) are all supported.
Can I get the photo data?
Many plans include free photo data taken by staff during the experience. Group shots with your finished creations, photogenic kimono shots and angles you can't capture yourself are all very popular. Data is shared via LINE or AirDrop on the day, or as an online album URL. Look for the "Free Photos" tag.
